Mike Barry Takes the Southern Oregon Golf Tournament
Comments 0 | Recommend 0It's the 2nd Straight Year the 21 Year Old has Won
The men's finalists in the Southern Oregon Golf Tournament were a student and his teacher. Twenty-one year old Oregon State golfer Mike Barry went up against his former coach at North Medford High School Kevin Klabunde for the match play championship at Rogue Valley Country Club.
A near perfect day for golf, the weather in cooperation and these two had a gallery of at least 100 people following them.
On the seventh hole, 25th overall out of the 36 they'll play, Barry is 9 up, Klabunde makes his putt so he could gain a stroke on his former student, and he does. Barry's rims out so now his lead falls to eight.
On to the 26th hole overall...with this putt Barry has a chance to get his nine stroke lead back and he bends like Beckham, so if he can go 1 up on the next hole he's the champ.
Klabunde's second shot finds the back bunker and that leads to this 25 foot putt for the win from Barry.
He nails it, so he beats his former coach to capture his second straight Southern Oregon Golf Tournament Championship.
"Ah, great, playing against one of my good friends today, my high school coach, it was tough to see him struggle a little bit, but I played solid all week and it's just a great way to end the tournament," says Barry
