About the CW

Since 2002, KTVL has been transmitting digital broadcasts from atop Mt. Ashland on channel 35. This exciting new technology presents the best picture and audio quality you've ever experienced! KTVL-DT broadcasts in the 1080i format, which is superior to the quality offered by a DVD.

As a result of this digital technology, KTVL has one HDTV station and two SDTV stations that we broadcast on our digital channel, thus showing three different programs at the same time. These different programs are called "stations" to differentiate them from our digital broadcast channel. These "stations" are called "10.1" (CBS in high definition), "10.2" (The CW), and "10.3" (CBS in standard definition).

If you have an over-the-air digital receiver, TV monitor and antenna, you can receive KTVL on channel 35. Your receiver will say 10-1, on which you will find CBS and News10 programming, including HD transmissions of any program offered in that format, or 10-2, which is The CW affiliate programming for Southern Oregon and Northern California.

The CW is also available on these cable systems:

  • Charter Cable in Klamath Falls (channel 11), Brookings (7), Gold Beach (7), and Lakeview (17).

  • Northland Cable in Mount Shasta (channel 19) and Yreka (8).

  • Siskiyou Cable in Etna (channel 20).

  • Ashland Fiber Network (channel 67).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The CW's relationship to KTVL News10?

  • KTVL-TV and Southern Oregon CW are both owned by Freedom Broadcasting of Oregon Inc., a division of Freedom Communications (www.freedom.com). Southern Oregon CW is a separate 24-hour TV station with CW network programming, along with other syndicated programming.

FAQ: How can I watch The Southern Oregon CW?

  • The Southern Oregon CW is broadcast as part of KTVL's digital signal, which can transmit more than one channel. The CW is available free over-the-air on digital channel 10-2. To view it as a free, over-the-air signal, you will need:

    • A digital TV with a built-in tuner or receiver, or a digital tuner connected to a digital ready monitor.

    • A digital antenna. You can find information specific to reception at your location on this link: www.checkhd.com/aw/welcome.aspx

FAQ: Is Southern Oregon CW carried on cable or satellite?

  • In most areas Southern Oregon CW is available on cable. <Click here> to see the complete list.

  • DirecTV has not indicated that they will carry the New Southern Oregon CW at this time, and we cannot force them. Contact DirecTV at this link (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=1100070) to request that they carry the local Southern Oregon CW to their subscribers.

  • Echostar's Dish Network has not indicated that they will carry the New Southern Oregon CW in the near future. Contact Echostar at this link (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/customer_service/faqs/index.shtml) to request that they carry the local Southern Oregon CW to their subscribers.

FAQ: We have an antenna. Will that get only the CBS network programming or both?

  • You need a digital receiver to tune to other digital channels. Your antenna (see specifications above) should plug into the "RF in" port of the receiver. Run a cable from "video out" on the receiver to the "video in" of your TV. Tune the receiver to channel 35. The display will read 10-1 for KTVL or to 10-2 for Southern Oregon CW.

  • For HD-ready TVs, plug the antenna into your receiver, and use the "component" connections to your TV for better quality.

  • If you already subscribe to a cable or satellite system, your receiver should have an extra port for an external antenna with a switch so you can watch this free-over-the-air programming.

FAQ: Are all the shows from the WB and UPN on the CW?
